Dr. Harumi Harakawa
Dr. Harumi Harakawa is a warm, thoughtful psychiatrist who strives to create a calm and non-judgmental space where patients feel genuinely heard and understood. She approaches care with curiosity and humility, keeping shared decision-making at the center of every visit so that patients feel supported and empowered in their healing.
Dr. Harakawa is completing her psychiatry residency at Westchester Medical
Center, where she serves as Chief Resident and provides evidence-based
psychiatric care across inpatient, outpatient, emergency, and medical settings. She
earned her medical degree from New York Medical College and graduated magna
cum laude with a B.S. in Health Sciences from Northeastern University. She has
been recognized for academic excellence and leadership through multiple honors,
including university community service awards, and competitive global health and
tropical medicine fellowships.
Her current scholarly interests include post-traumatic stress disorder,
neuropsychiatry, and consultation-liaison psychiatry, and she has presented her
work at national conferences such as the Academy of Consultation-Liaison
Psychiatry and the American Association for Geriatric Psychiatry.
With roots in Lima’s Japanese Peruvian community, Dr. Harakawa is fluent in both
English and Spanish. She is committed to culturally responsive, collaborative care
that centers around each patient’s goals, values, and lived experience.
